• FRAME AND SWINGARM

Even with its thoroughbred offroad chassis, the 690 Enduro R also counts among the corner-bandits on pavement. Its excellent tracking stability owes a great deal to two major contributors: the light tubular trellis frame built from chrome-molybdenum steel and the high-grade die-cast swingarm, each of them extremely resistant to torsion.

• SUSPENSION COMPONENTS

From professionals, for everyone: the WP upside-down fork on the KTM 690 Enduro R offers a full 250 mm of travel and 48 mm outer tubes, has many adjustment options, and handles the balancing act between everyday, road and offroad riding with the greatest ease. It's built as a split fork with separate damping circuits (compression damping in the left fork tube, rebound damping in the right), each adjustable independently of the other. As a result, they can't interact the way they do in conventional open bleed systems, guaranteeing ride characteristics that are even sportier, more purposeful and optimized for the rider. The WP pressurised-gas monoshock, articulated by a pivot arm and offering 250 mm of travel, even has high-speed and low-speed compression adjustment.

• BRAKES

Lightweight wave brake discs are fitted to the extremely powerful, easy-to-apply Brembo® brakes of the KTM 690 Enduro R. They stand up to every kind of hardcore use, whether you're on the gas through a maze of curves or descending a mountain over heavy terrain.

• ABS

The 690 Enduro R goes into battle with Bosch 9M+ABS: highly effective, able to be switched off, and available with optional offroad ABS (via PowerParts dongle) for genuine offroad riding, which leaves the rear wheel free to lock while a sharp ABS function stays active at the front.

• INJECTION / ENGINE MANAGEMENT

Fuel economy has always been an amazing strength of the 690 Enduro R, and in 2014 it runs more efficiently still. The reason? Its low weight, plus its highly efficient engine management with twin plug ignition and electronic injection with ride-by-wire. Its state-of-the-art OHC single-cylinder engine plays a part as well.

• EQUIPMENT AND ERGONOMICS

The ergonomically optimized tank fairings combine with the comfortable seat and the wide, ideally angled aluminum handlebar in a perfect arrangement that makes the KTM 690 Enduro R extremely simple to control, on the road as well as offroad. • BALANCER SHAFT

The 690 single-cylinder's finely balanced crank drive turns terrific combustion pressure into unrivalled single-cylinder power, thanks to its balancer shaft, which does away with vibration without any detrimental effect on the super-single.
